Policy Statement

The Paint Yard is committed to promoting the safety, wellbeing, and empowerment of all children who participate in our programs. We believe every child has the right to feel safe, be heard, and enjoy play in a nurturing and supportive environment.

Purpose

This policy outlines how The Paint Yard works to create a safe environment for children, prevent harm and abuse, and respond effectively to concerns or allegations.

Scope

This policy applies to all staff, volunteers, contractors, students, children, families, and visitors at The Paint Yard.

Principles

We commit to:

  • Acting in the best interests of children.

  • Creating an environment where children’s voices are respected.

  • Upholding children’s rights to safety and participation.

Child Safe Practices at The Paint Yard

1. Child Empowerment and Participation

  • Children are encouraged to express their thoughts, feelings, and concerns.

  • We provide opportunities for children to contribute to activity planning and play decisions.

  • Staff actively listen to and respect children’s perspectives.

2. Staff

  • Staff and volunteers must provide a current NSW Working With Children Check (WWCC) before engaging with children.

3. Risk Management

  • Activities and environments are assessed for risks to children’s safety.

  • We design spaces with visibility, accessibility, and supervision in mind.

  • Risk assessments are conducted for any off-site or special events.

4. Responding to Concerns and Allegations

  • All staff must report concerns about child abuse or neglect in accordance with mandatory reporting laws.

5. Education and Training

  • The Owner is trained in child protection and recognising signs of harm.

  • Training includes the Child Safe Standards and reporting obligations.

7. Family and Community Engagement

  • We value open communication with families.

  • Parents/carers are encouraged to ask questions and share concerns.

Policy Review and Continuous Improvement

  • This policy will be reviewed annually or following a critical incident.

  • Feedback from staff, families, and children will be used to improve our child safe practices.
